We've got mail—e-mails, newspaper blurbs and press releases. Duke Ellis wrote, hoping to make an appearance in the class column before any mention in the obituaries (along time hence). After Hanover he spent time in the Navy (thanks to ROTC) and went on to Temple for his Ph.D. in clinical psychology. While there, he met Stephanie Adams, his wife of 25 years, and also a psychologist. In Philly they began a lifetime interest in peace, justice and environemntal causes that continues to this day. In 1980 they moved to Cape Cod, where they work together in private practice, specializing in couple and family therapy, and in their free time sailing, paddling and rowing. Duke also serves as clinical director for a regional behavioral healthcare organization integrated with the two hospital systems on the Cape. He and Stephanie have a son entering junior year in high school. He'd love to hear from the "silent majority" of our class. Write him at dukeellis@mail.com.
Line Eldredge sent me the op-ed page from The NewY ork Times of March 18: '6Bs had a double hit with articles by Jeff Garten ("The American Risk in Japan") and Bob Reich ("Corporate Power in Overdrive").
Pepper Hamilton, a multipractice law firm in Philadelphia, recently announced the reelection of Barry Abelson to its executive committee, of which he serves as chair. He concentrates his practice in securities, venture capital and merger and acquisition transactions. He lives in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. The Tri-Kap newsletter shared news that Frank Couper spent four weeks in South Africa visiting his son and year-old grandson. You can reach Frank at stargazer-fecouper@prodigy.net.
The Falmouth Enterprise featured George Spiveys lecture on "Black Yankees in New England, talking about African-Americans in New England 1795 to 1910. And finally, a great e-mail from Frank Stech titled "Spychology, Surfing Beaches and Cut-throat Trout." In backwards order, he reported his current full-time work, since the early 80s, at MITRE Corp. in assorted high technology service for agencies all identified by initials (CIA, NSA, DOD, etc). His long-term part-time" job has been as a colonel in the Army Reserve for 30 years, in military intelligence and special operations. At one point he was chief of the Special Operations Branch, making him the chief SOB. He spent a sabbatical year at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts, as a Senior Service College Fellow... the first time a reserve officer had been so honored, followed by selection as an adjunct professor at the U.S. Army War College. He first came to the D.C. area in 1977 as a CIA contractor in the psychology of intelligence analysis ("spychology"). Frank got his M.A. and Ph.D. in economics, cognitive and social psychology at University of California Santa Barbara ("best surfing in the UC system"). He and wife Alix live in Glenndale, Maryland, with 14-year-old daughter Gabrielle and 16-year-old Brian, a ward from Haiti. Daughter Lenore, after graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill, is joining the Army Military Police Corps; daughter Di ana recently married and is getting her Ph.D. in economics at Maryland; and son Matt is in Wyoming, where he serves as a director of a school for at-risk kids and teaches his dad how to catch big cut-throat trout. Great e-mail, Frank. Hope I did it justice. More like it are welcome(!) as well as news of any kind. Hope your summer has been going well.
