We usually do not include obituaries in this column, but the notice of Bud Snead's passing has been so delayed and the story of his life is so varied that we thought an exception permissible.

Thornton Withers Snead died in Palm City, Florida, on April 1,2001. He came to Dartmouth from Evanston Township High School, was a member of the track team, Green Key and Psi Upsilon. He majored in English/history. He and his twin brother, Walter L. Snead, who predeceased him, were a popular and attractive duo on the Hanover scene, but Bud left Dartmouth in 1932 in the Depression because of financial stringency. As 33ers will remember, the twins combined to produce and market the tasty and popular Morning Glory tomato juice, which gained a national market. After five years in the food business, Bud became an advertising manager for Standard Oil of Indiana, subsequently serving as merchandising manager for Tested Papers of America. He did two years' duty as a lieutenant in the Navy in the Pacific in an armed guard unit. He joined Booz, Allen as a management consultant in 1947, rising to partner and vice president in 1952 and there working until his retirement in 1970. He was a director of several commercial and nonprofit corporations and was active in the Episcopal Church. He worked for many years as a class agent in the Alumni Fund drives and was a member of a class reunion committee. He is survived by his wife, Julia, and daughters Carol, Susan and Mary. Julia wrote us a warm note to thank the class for the memorial book that we gave the library in Bud's memory.
