Clubs & Groups
CLASS NOTES
Dartmouth clubs and groups have been busy bringing together alumni for enrichment experiences and social gatherings.
The Dartmouth Lawyers Association (DLA) continues to present a wide range of programs of interest to its members. In March Curtis Leitner ’04 interviewed Dr. Jhilam Biswas ’05, faculty member at Harvard Medical School, about the evaluation of emotional distress claims in civil litigation and how they can be presented (and challenged) effectively. Also in March, Dr. Marissa Alert ’09 presented a program on stress management for attorneys and how to turn stress into an opportunity for growth and resilience. Preparations for next year’s annual meeting at Snowbird (January 25-28,2024) are well under way, and Hon. James Bassett ’78 (N.H. Supreme Court) and Hon. Thomas Waterman ’81 (Iowa Supreme Court) will be the keynote speakers. Thanks to Jeffrey Carton ’88, the new president of the DLA, for the update.
John Bash ’67, president of the Dartmouth Club of Sarasota and Manatee in Florida, reports that on March 17 Dr. John Stomberg spoke on “The New Hood Museum of Art: Creativity and the Arts at Dartmouth.” Former Big Apple Circus ringmaster Paul Binder ’63 invited Steven High, executive director of the Ringling Art Museum in Sarasota, to meet his Hanover counterpart. Attendees were very favorably impressed by the incorporation of the Hood resources into a wide variety of courses not just art related.
David Dietze ’78, president of the Dartmouth Club of Suburban New Jersey, reports that the club resumed its popular in person spring luncheon on March 8. It was an opportunity to catch up on club activities, renew ties with old Dartmouth friends, and make new acquaintances while enjoying food and drink in a convivial atmosphere. The club also had an interesting speaker, Henrik Rosvall, “coach to champions.” Paralyzed from his chest down in 2007, doctors informed him that there was a 99.5-percent chance that he would never walk again. In what became the ultimate case study in the power of a world-class mindset, he used the same tools and strategies he had used as a successful coach to defy the odds and eventually learn to walk again.
Thank you for all you do for Dartmouth alumni! Please send me updates about the great events that you and your club members have organized.
