It was a simple ceremony that memorialized our departed classmates, 66 having having passed away since our last (55 th) reunion. Thomson Littlefield and Robbins Barstow conducted the moving ceremony in Rollins Chapel on June 13.
There were also many light moments for the 69 '41s, including seven widows, who gathered in Hanover for the 60th reunion. Except for one rainy evening, the weather was beautiful and sunny bringing a smile to the face of Vic Schneider as he counted 125 happy attendees at his well-organized, three-day event.
Retired Air Force Col. Phil Hallam came up from Oldsmar, Florida, bringing three other family members, a granddaughter and sons Phil Jr. '69 and Steve '73. The latter are airline pilots like their two brothers. Your secretary played "My, haven't you grown" with Phil Jr. and Steve, as they were little rug-rats when we last met in Tokyo in the mid-'sos at Dartmouth Club functions also attended by Clayt Gray and Rog Haley, R.I.P.
Don Norton seemed to be enjoying himself despite his difficulty in walking after four hip replacements. His son Don Jr., also from White Bear Lake, Minnesota, assisted him, as did daughter Libby Baker, who operates an inn in Durham, New Hampshire. Another Minnesotan, Gretchen Krieger was in town for the graduation of her granddaughter.
Arrivals from distant points included Dr. Bill Dignam from California; Bruce Brown from Seattle; on his way to the Netherlands and London, Chet Williams from Texarkana,Texas; Ed Patterson, anxious to return to Tulsa for the U.S. Open golf tourney at his club; and Dick Cords from Long Beach, California. Faithful Floridians included Don Stillman, passing on the presidential gavel to Steve Winship, Don Taber, Phil Hall, Dr. Walt Winchester, Stu May, Snuffy Smith and Dr. Zeke Billings, working on a novel.
Hardy tennis players vowing to return for our 65th reunion in 2006 were the Winships, Dode and Bob Rainie, Pete Keir (the newvice president), Barbara Young, yours truly and mixeddoubles winners Monk Larson and Marian Best, Bill's wife.
An early reminder for you busy planners: The mini in Hanover will be the weekend of September 27, the Penn game. See you there.
