June was a good month in a good, year for parties, those of the significant milestone variety. I was fortunate to attend two of them. Though different in some respects, they shared a common purpose. They radiated a sense of warmth. Their honorees were showered with the loving feelings and words of their families and friends who, in many instances, traveled many miles to share the joys of the event. Ron Lazar's 70th birthday, framed in the elegant beauty of the Nassau County Museum of Fine Art, was a delightful evening in which Ron's family spoke adoringly of him. Bonnie and David Siegal used the occasion of Davids 70th birthday and Bonnie's 60th to combine the two with their 40th wedding anniversary. Bonnie and David spoke movingly of their lives together as their children added their own good wishes. In addition to sharing the pleasures of our celebrants, we enjoyed visiting and reminiscing with all our classmates who attended.
The following attended both affairs: Barbara and John Kennedy, Liliane and Ron Lazar, Bonnie and David Siegal, Bobby and Mark Smoller, and Joan and Bemi Sudikoff, Rosalie and Ray Alexander, Roberta Burkan, Bob Calender, Ann and Harlan Fair, Timmy and Gil Shapiro Donna and Chuck Reilly. Thelma and Fred Stephens attended Ron's bash, while Bobbi and Skip Adams and Vivian and Dick Cahn made it to the Siegals', where Dick joyfully told me that his son, Danny, has joined his law firm. He added that he now has had the pleasure of practicing law with both his father and his son.
Bob Malin e-mailed me with a report that he had read in a magazine called Mail: The Journal of Communications Distribution, a published a survey ranking the postmasters general of the modern era (i.e. following the U.S. Post Office reorganization in 1971). As we might have expected, Tony Frank was listed at the absolute top. No surprise there!
Great dreams! Great plans! Great 50th! To that end, chairman Allen Collins met with our reunion committee for four hours on July 23, in Hanover to continue its efforts to organize and plan a most perfect 50th reunion. Drawing on the experiences of other classes as well as their own creativity, they are organizing a reunion to outdo all others with optional extensions on either end. Thursday is set for golf, tennis, hiking and relaxation. A post reunion trip to the Trapp Family Lodge has a lot of support and is all arranged. Friday and Saturday's schedule is still a work in progress, but rounding into shape rapidly. Looking at the following group that was in attendance, we can confidently expect something really special. They are: Beekman, Blodgett, Callender,Carleton, Chamberlain, Collins, Donovan, Dunham, Fleming, Friedmann, Goodman, Goss, Halloran, Kennedy, O'Connor, Patten, Reilly, Siegal, Simpson, Thornley and Zimmerman.
I am at all times ravenous for news for this column, and would appreciate hearing from you. Cheers!
