Thee's and snails have been arriving with some regularity; thanks to all. And the news involves many Dartmouth classes, as it should. We are an extended family.

Clark Wadlow wrote a disclaimer to the SportsIllustrated column in February noting the famous Wadlow polygamists. Names were changed, the author has claimed. Jerry Rineharts wife, Peggy (Mann), wrote to share the latest addition to Jerry's CV: grandfather. Jerry serves as assistant dean and director of the undergraduate program of the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. Peggy and Jerry have been married for 34 years. Daughter Jill Rinehart '91 is a pediatrician in Burlington, Vermont. She is married to Eric Swanson, and their children are Aland (future class of 2021) and Jagr (2023). There is very deep Dartmouth tradition here: on the Mann side, the boys' great-grandfather was Steve Mann '45, and their great uncle is Bob Mann '67. David Smith was recently acknowledged by Governing.com as a 2001 Public Official of the Year, for turning around the fiscal affairs of Maricopa County (Arizona). He arrived in 1994, after a career that included stints in city management in Yonkers, New York, and county management in Buffalo's Erie County. The county was in fiscal meltdown. In seven years the budget is in the black, bond rating is rising and the county hospital turned a profit. (Secretary's Note: This news came from Louis Mills '45, David's first boss!) A few news releases hit my desk: Robert Burr, M.D., was recently nominated as a director as part of a business combination of Biophage Inc, a Canadian biopharmaceutical company, and Almont Capital Corp. Bob received his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College in 1973, followed by residency at the Mayo Clinic and fellowships at Rockefeller University, Mass General Hospital and Joslin Diabetes Center. He is an attending physician in endocrinology at the Boston Medical Center. In his free(?) time he is COO of Holtherics Inc.; involved in R&D on dermatologically active peptides; has been active in the U.S. military, where he attained the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve; and continues to work toward a doctorate of science at Umass-Lowell. Pete Hofman was named as director of marketing and business development for Measured Progress, a New Hampshire company developing customized assessment tools and professional development services for K-12 education.

And the countdown is on: By the time you read this, it'll be about 13 months to our 35th, June 9-12,2003. Veteran reunion chair Ed Heald will be joined by Greg Marshall as co-chair, with help from the entire executive committee. Help us plan: Join us at the next executive committee meeting in Hanover Saturday, May 11,10:30 to 12 or so, with a strong lobby for an afternoon of golf. Contact any of us on the executive committee for details.
