In a note from Dick Everett in December 2001, he reported that the neuropathy, which had seriously limited his mobility, continued. Then I received a note that Dick died on February 10, 2002. He will be missed. Allan Rosenthal sent thanks for his birthday card. He commented: "Inasmuch as I had my first heart attack in 1954 at the age of 36, I seriously questioned whether I would ever reach my present age of 84. However, the good Lord in his infinite wisdom and modern science has preserved me and I am here to enjoy it." Karl Bruch wrote that he is "still struggling with the insistent demands of the aging process for significant changes of our lifestyle and our long-cherished plans. Have finally given up trying to out-smart it and am now simply trying to plan for every eventuality."
Lloyd Blanchard wrote that it was nice to have his birthday remembered but rather sobering being reminded. Peg seems to have lost little energy, Lloyd reports, but they do stay busy with community activities and committees. No word yet on a date for our 65th except it will not occur during graduation week. Bill Huffman observed, "My, how the birthdays do add up. All is fine in Cleveland."
When Bob Castle's obit was written, we didn't have the following list of survivors: his wife, Jessie; sons Truman, Steve and Cameron; daughter Kimberly Castle Gillespie; and nine grandchildren.
Meredith Scott '96, granddaughter of Miki and Jim Scott, is looking for a video made by a classmate about Dartmouth skiing and Winter Carnival. Her grandmother (Miki) is in it. If you have any information, contact her at info@vermontskimuseum.org. Meredith is curator of the Vermont Ski Museum.
Last year 22 books were presented to the Baker Library memorializing classmates who died during the year. A note was sent to each spouse telling her the name of the book. Petah Acer sent thanks for remembering Oscar with a library book. Lorraine Williams was pleased with the memorial book because Sam surrounded himself with hundreds of books and the class gift was just perfect. Gene Bacon wrote, "Ben was an avid reader (and printer) so he would be especially pleased with the gift selection." Also heard from Joyce Browne.
