Weigh-Tronix, LLC, parent company of the Avery Weigh-Tronix Group, has announced that it has appointed Gerald Bowe as chief executive officer. According to Business Wire, he "brings a wealth of experience in international operations, in financial liaison with investors and lenders, and in the development and implementation of far reaching strategic initiatives."
From Connecticut Business magazine comes news that the No. 2 slot in the 10 2002 Connecticut Inner City Entrepreneurship Awards goes to Chanler Lewis Inc., a successful manufacturer of architectural millwork for homes, public buildings, commercial offices and retail stores. Why do we care? Because it was founded by its CEO, our very own Thomas C. Officer. To quote our classmate, "Our size [2000 revenues: $6 million] also helps us compete for large contracts that many of our smaller competitors cannot handle." He additionally cites excellent service and quality of product that has allowed Chandler to depend only onword-of-mouth advertising.
I, your fearless columnist, Norman Brown, have just completed my first year of law school. Since they haven't sent me a "clean out your locker!" letter, I assume that I passed my final exams. I will be clerkin' and workin' in D.C. this summer, learning about environmental law. As I will be involved in a serious course of study, please do not invite me to any frivolous diplomatic parties—I will just gate-crash like I did as an undergraduate!
