I'm not generally the mushytype, but I have to say, being at Dartmouth for our fifth-year reunion June 14 through 16 gave me a warm, fuzzy feeling. And it appears I wasn't the only one. I've compiled some reunion memories from other classmates...
Liz Boone: "The College on the Hill casts such a spell over the women in this family. One weekend in Hanover and 3-year old Emma is ready to pack her bags and head to Mommy's college. Despite the rain, Hanover has never been as beautiful as it was through the eyes of my children. Emma, a true story-hour addict, was speechless at the sight of Baker Library, while William simply liked all the places to run."
David Belden: "Being back in Hanover was a fabulous respite from reality. I was amazed by the charisma of our class and left with a refreshed joie de vivre and love of Dartmouth. In fact, being back on campus reminded me of our orientation week, when I was amazed by how sharp everyone was and how interesting and diverse their experiences were. This reunion was no different!"
Marty Dengler: "Reports of Stinsons demise were greatly exaggerated and fully refuted upon investigation by myself and Bones Gates' Jeremy Stackawitz, Andrew Kevorkian, Mark Kutny, Paul Manger, Alex Hung and Michael Kim ('95)—seeing tons of other '97s having a good time along Webster Avenue and at the well-stocked class tent was worth the trip from London."
Jessica Russo: "It was wonderful to be back in Hanover again, and if I can say (or remember) anything from the weekend, it's that it was amazing that it only took a couple of hours to fall right back in the Dartmouth swing again. I felt like I never left...it was great to see so many old friends and catch up, and do the things that you could only do at Dartmouth! (Like spend all day on Saturday doing nothingin particular, but just talking, eating and laughing with friends. Oh, and playing a little pong, too!)."
Danielle Benware Thompson: "One of the memories that I have about reunion is that my 2year-old has inherited my taste for EBAs chicken sandwiches! My family and I had a great time reconnecting with old friends and catching up with folks. Being a mom is quite a conversation starter. My husband, Todd, really enjoyed being there, and my daughter, Sydney, had a blast. She'll have an even better time at the next reunion, when there will be more than a handful of kids to play with."
Jen Tudder: "Well, Matt Walus and I had a blast—it was great getting back on campus, going into EBAs and ordering all our favorite latenight (and class-ditching) foods. As for whom we saw, well, it was great to hear of so many engagements and marriages—and meeting peoples significant others, if they weren't Dartmouth people. I enjoyed learning that Andrea Whitney and her hubby have recently moved to Chicago (so we'll have to do dinner!), I met JC Martinez's wife and was glad to hear that Chris Winship and Cindy Goodwin made it in time from their honeymoon.
"I enjoyed talking to the Hollywood contingency (Jake Krueger, Eyal Podell, Phil Lord) and hearing about their successes—and promising to watch their shows/movies to boost the ratings! FYI, Phil and Chris Miller have an animated series debuting on MTV Sundays at 10:30 p.m. ET starting in October! (There's a shameless plug for you!).
"The best part of all, though, was seeing my old college roomie Stacey Briere (my goodness, we'd roomed together since sophomore summer!) and crazy chums Mike Messina (who's enjoying success filming Dune II in Prague with Susan Sarandon and Jeff Bridges), his girlfriend Amanda Medford (who is finishing up or had finished med school at Temple U, my dad's alma mater), Lee Jekos and Steve Lee. We played pong at Sigma Delt every night until the sun came up and it was good to see that the dynamic pong duo of Mike Messina and Matt Walus hadn't waivered. I definitely miss Dear Old Dartmouth and am already looking forward to our 10th reunion!"
Thanks to Kristin Canavan and Holly Thomas for organizing such a successful reunion.
Feel free to send more reunion recollections tome.
