Greetings! I hope everyone is enjoying the changing seasons. As I sit here in North Carolina in mid-August, dealing with nonstop rain, I'm hoping that the weather has turned around by the time this is published. I've received some bits and pieces about classmates from the College so there is news to pass along. The first item came from the June 8 Concord, New Hampshire, Monitor that announced the appointment of Peter Cowan as chairman of Sheehan Phinney Bass & Greens litigation department. Peter will also serve on the firm's four-member management committee. Peter is a member and director of the firm that is located in Manchester and "focuses on complex business litigation including trade secrets, construction and other business disputes." Congratulations, Pistol!

The College also forwarded an announcement from the Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Intelligences Journal that Stefanie Valar was promoted to acting director of major and planned gifts. I'm assuming that this is at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, where she was previously senior associate director.

The College also forwarded a copy of an announcement by Bivium Capital Partners LLC that they have launched their investment management boutique, "created to provide investment management and investment advisory services to public and private pension plans, corporations, family offices and wealthy individuals." Along with news of the launch, they announced key principals in the venture. Richard Nichols is one of the managing directors whose focus will be on legal and operational affairs. Rich is an attorney with more than 20 years experience in sports, politics, finance, venture capital and technology. He has served as vice president of corporate affairs and general counsel to the American Basketball League, senior associate attorney at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, and chief operating officer and general counsel to Pacific Capital Mortgage. In addition to his J.D. from UC's blastings College of Law, Rich also earned his masters of education administration and policy analysis at Stanford.

I also received a note from Joe Henley '79, who had been on the golf team at Dartmouth with Jerry Daly. He sent me news of a memorial started in Jerrys name involving the golf community. In July 2003 the inaugural Jerry Daly Father-Son Invitational golf tournament was held in Marion, Massachusetts, at The Kittanset Club. The proceeds of the tournament will benefitthe Jerry Daly Scholarship Fund, which will be under the umbrella of the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund, which annually gives around $1 million to deserving college students who work at golf clubs and courses in Massachusetts. Francis Ouimet won the 1913 U.S. Open at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, where he had caddied. The Jerry Daly Scholarship Fund will award an additional scholarship to an Ouimet scholar from Marion or the surrounding area that works at the Kittanset Club. Dartmouth alumni participating with their sons were Ken Kotowski '68, Jim Edgeworth '73, Tom Mullany '77, Rich Bane '77, Joe Henley' 79, Gordon Daisley '79 and Jim Jankowski '81, as well as former Dartmouth golf coach (1967-2001) Bill Johnson. Contributing, but not able to attend was Bruce Pfaff. I think everyone will agree that this is a fitting tribute to Jerry.
