Alberta and Bud Elder enjoyed a fabulous Thanksgiving dinner with Peg and Harry Hampton at the Woodstock Inn. Harry had 26 of his family, with Alberta and Bud totaling 28. Bud and Harry had been in the third grade in Evanston, Illinois, together and then roomed together at Dartmouth, so this was keeping up an old friendship. Harry, as trustee for the 45 Weather Station Trust, keeps me up to date on the value of that trust each year. As of September 29,2002,it had a market value of $9,4-68.76.
Ted Safford, class head agent informs us that 54 percent of our class supported the Dartmouth College Fund last year. For those others in the 46 percent, I would plead that you change your status or at least pay class dues so you will continue to receive the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine, these Class Notes and other class mailings.
Andrew MacKay Scott, another product of Evanston, sent a nice letter telling of his coming to Dartmouth in the fateful fall of 1941, being in the "Dartmouth Squadron" with the Navy, returning to finish and go to Tuck, Harvard School of Government and in 1947 meet Anne Firor, his wife to be for all these years. He got his Ph.D. from Harvard, did the State Department, CIA, Mutual Security Agency, Ford Foundation and then University of North Carolina in 1958 until retirement in 19,93, still in Chapel Hill. It was a pleasure to read that letter and put it in the class files.
I recently heard the coach of Dartmouth rugby football tell of the club's continuing success and fun. They had their 50th anniversary in 001, having won the New England Championship four of the last seven years. They are hoping to build a clubhouse on Sachem Field south of Hanover and "perpetuate a tradition of success, camaraderie and excellence on and off the pitch since 1951."
Remember the class mini-reunion in Quechee October 3 and 4,2003, with Pennsylvania football (we will try to get the applications out in June/July this year) and the mini-mini in Florida in March 2004.
