The local Valley News had a nice write-up on another 1945. Henry (Pete) Tewksbury (now called "Henry the Cheeseman") has written The Cheeses of Vermont. It introduces the who and what of the cheesemakers and their products of that state. The article told how Tewksbury had been a director and producer who won an Emmy for Father Knows Best and then left Hollywood for Vermont, where he runs the cheese department at the Brattleboro Food Co-op. The book is great
fun to read for anyone who enjoys cheese.
The New York Times wrote up the new book titled The Emperor of Ocean Park by Stephen L. Carter (son of Lisle C. Carter Jr.) as one of the season's biggest novels. Lisle was awarded an honorary LL.D. degree at Dartmouth in 1979 and named a trustee of Dartmouth College in 1983, along with many other honors and positions. He has a very impressive bio in our 40 th reunion book and he can be proud of his son as well.
I had the pleasure of talking to John Gooding, who was visiting friends here in Hanover. He was wearing the green jacket and looked very well. We hope we see him back here frequently.
Robert "Doc" Tirrell will be the next 1945 reunion co-chairman with Vesta Smith. That reunion, our 60 th, will take place in June of 2005, so markyour calendars now for a great occasion. President Jim Wright has just discussed with the Town of Hanover the Colleges master plan for the next five-to-ten years and there will be many new things to see in Hanover now and when you get here, plus great fellowship. A new class directory will be put out for the reunion, so be sure to send your current address to the Alumni Relations Office. There will be more details later. If you get this in time, remember the class minireunion in Quechee on September 27-29, with New Hampshire football, and the mini-mini in Florida in March 2003 for you lovers of the sun.
