The class of 1933 enjoyed a rewarding and historic 70th reunion in June under the able management and through the hard work of chairman Bob McDonald and Mary Jo. Present for the festivities were Rick Bradshaw and son David, Sam and Stella Cunningham, Nancy Elliott, Jane Hart, Fred Helmholz, Norma and Bob James, Ned Lord and son Tom, Dick Lyon and son Simon, Dot Manchester, Mary Jo and Bob McDonald, Jean Meek and daughter Sally, Rosemary and John Monagan, Lorrin and Caroline Riggs, Betty and Fuller Ripley, Ray Theriault, D.B. Voorhees and son D.B. Jr., Miller Wachs and grandson Coe, and Stan Whitman. We had our headquarters in the appropriately named Ford Sayre Suite at the Inn and, as nonagenarians, wearing our sizeable "70" badges, we were the cynosure of all eyes and the recipients of plaudits on all sides.
Events included an Inn dinner with popular and Dartmouth songs by the excellent Dartmouth Aires and an intimate talk by Dartmouth VP Stan Colla '66, son of our classmate; a reception by President and Mrs. Wright; a fine Glee Club concert in Spaulding Auditorium; a class meeting where we elected Miller Wachs our class president and reelected our other officers; a memorial service at impressive Aquinas House with the Rev. Bob James officiating and Monagan delivering the eulogy of deceased members; and a class picture posed in front of the Inn. During the 50-year class luncheon, forced by rain inside jammed and steaming Rollins Chapel, Rip presented President Wright with our '33 class gift to the College, evidenced by a massive check for $70,000 (our quota, which, in fact, was well exceeded). In the evening was a dinner at the Outing Club House, where professor Jack Shepherd presented a trio of bright and attractive students, who discussed their rewarding experiences in overseas studies and fielded questions with facility.
On Sunday, with the sun miraculously shining and Baker chimes clanging, 1933 led the procession past the assembled thousands to the Commencement exercises on the Green. There after, our reunion concluded with an informal luncheon at the Inn.
A fine, friendly, vivifying gathering of classmates and families—'33 up!
