The mini-reunion arranged by Joe Hayes at the Norwich Inn on October 24-26 attracted 43 classmates and wives for the Saturday night dinner and 17 members for the executive committee meeting held on Friday morning. A number of issues were discussed. President John Trethaway may call for an executive committee meeting in April. Our mini-reunion in 2004 is scheduled for the weekend of the Harvard football game, October 29-31, at the Norwich Inn. An executive committee meeting will be scheduled for Friday afternoon, October 29, to allow time for travel in the morning. At the meeting, it was noted that the senior fence had been moved into a right-angle configuration at the southwest corner of the campus in order to protect the corner of the campus from pedestrian traffic other than an existing walkway. Writer's comment: Moving the fence to the new location is somewhat ironic in that the original fence was constructed to keep animals in place. On November 9, 2003, Gerard Kirchner of Stowe, Vermont, received the Damien-Dutton Award from the Damien-Dutton Society for Leprosy Aid. He joins more than 50 other recipients from throughout the world who have been recognized for significant contributions to the conquest of leprosy since 1953. The award is named after Father Damien de Veuster and Brother Joseph Dutton, a Stowe native, who ministered to lepers in Hawaii in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. The recipient founded the Brother Dutton Society in Stowe in 1995 and has worked tirelessly toward educating the public and to bring hope to those suffering from the disease.
