Bob Clements and the trustees of The Clements Foundation have endowed the Robert Clements Professor of Democracy and Politics at the College. Bob has been chairman of the Bermuda and U.S.-based insurance firm Arch Capital Group since 1995. He is also chairman emeritus of the board of overseers of the School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science of St. Johns. With this endowment, Dartmouth will appoint to its faculty a nationally or internationally renowned scholar who can foster public discussion on problems of democracy and democratic transition. This faculty member will have broad expertise in political science and should bring an interest in philosophy, history, law or religion. President Wright announced the gift at a luncheon in New York City attended by- Bob and his family and the '54 reunion committee.

A recent article in The Dartmouth described the furniture and antiques in the president's residence including the side chairs in the dining room, each chair representing a specific Dartmouth president. Dave McLaughlins chair was designed by John Scotford and stitched by John Sloan Dickeys daughters, Sylvia Dickey and Christina Stearns (wife of Stew Stearns).

In the winter and spring of 1960 the class was preparing for its first reunion in Hanover. Eight reunions later, we now prepare for our 50th. Sign up ('54 Out), send your bios to Bill White or Wayne Weil and help us with our reunion gift.

As you read this column, the class golfers will be gathering at the Plantation Inn in Crystal River, Florida, for the annual golf outing.
