When you read this, the fall class mini-reunion will have come and gone. This year's gala was on the first weekend of October. You'll just have to hold your breath in anticipation of hearing about it until the next DAM issue in December. These six-week deadlines have a way of destroying all the fun, or at least delaying it. Speaking of minis, or at least the class executive committee meeting held therein, this fall's will be/was chaired for the first time by our new class president Eric Miller. He succeeded Bud Gleason and will serve as president for the next two years.
At this writing Bud is in the Duke University hospital, where he is undergoing treatment for leukemia. We all wish the best for him and Jan, and we hope for a speedy remission and recovery.
Rick Miller is a longtime buddy, our having played football together at Bronxville (New York) High School and on the Dartmouth freshman team. My athletic claim to fame ended there, but Rick went on to varsity squash and pitching on the baseball team. Rick had a very distinguished career in the finance and investment field in New York City and San Francisco. Interestingly, Ricks Dartmouth son married the daughter of our classmate Chuck Solberg, and Rick and Chuck have several children and grandchildren who went to the College. A few other tidbits: Barbara and I recently had a fun lunch with jolly Charley Abbe, where we reminisced about past good times and Dodie. Ben Shaver and I had a good telephone talk. He recently broke a hip in a fall, but seems to be recovering nicely. Fellow Tuckee Alex Hoffman is now the class of'51 scribe for Tucks alumni magazine. The new vice president for alumni relations is David Spalding of the class of 1976.
That's it for now. Take a moment and drop mean e-mail line with a bit of news for the December issue.
