Baseball season is well underway and the NCAA basketball tournament in March was as exciting as it has been in years. Saw the Allmann Brothers a few weeks ago in N.Y.C. and I felt as if I were in a time warp! Greg Allmann is getting a little "long in the tooth," but the music is still great.

John Lippman reports he was promoted to seniorvice president of Univision Television Group with responsibilities for news, operations and promotions at the company's 54 television stations. He celebrated 10 years at Univision, the No. Spanish language broadcaster in the United States. John is unable to attend our reunion as he will be covering the World Cup.

Our annual Rene Pujol dinner was held March 8. Despite a light turnout, we engaged in some good conversation and fine wine. Nels Armstrong and Janet Rosa joined us representing the College; they informed us of extensive construction on campus and the numerous changes to the physical plant, including new dorms. Wayne Hobin, reunion-giving chair, talked at some length, with input from Janet, about our reduced Alumni Fund goal of $1 million, down from our original year-out record goal of $1.4 million. It will be a struggle just to attain the reduced figure. General discussion followed regarding reasons why both giving and participation seem to be off, and what we, as a class (and the College), might do to counter the malaise. Unfortunately, the evenings organizer, John Shanahan, was unable to join us because he had four stents installed. John is doing well and is quite grateful that he did not need major heart surgery. All in all, it was an enjoyable evening with good dialogue and com- ments for Nels and Janet to take back to the alumni-giving office. For some reason, there seems to be an elevated level of discontent among our classmates, and we attempted to pinpoint the reasons to our Colleges representatives. If you haven't already sent in your dues, please do so, and consider a gift to the Alumni Fund so that we may reach our goal.

A few hours after the N.Y.C. gathering began, the second annual dinner for Bay Area '71s occurred. Willis Newton did the bulk of the work for the gathering at Izzy's Steak house in the Marina District. In attendance were Willis, Gary Cook, Greg Schelkun, Bob Valkevich, Bob Cushman, John Eaton, Dick Wenzel, Malcolm Jones and Sam Cuddeback. Due to space constraints, I will have to provide additional info in the next column.

Received a phone call from fellow Streeter Hall inhabitant Doug Lehman, who is alive and well in New York City, still making believe he is a lawyer! Sadly, he reported the sudden passing of classmate Dave Bartkowski. Doug did not have too many details in this regard, but said he would pass information along to me when received. I urged Doug to join us at reunion, and he said he hopes to join us if his work schedule allows.
