Well, it finally happened! The Red Sox not only blew past the Yankees for the pennant, but also had four straight wins in the World Series. Now all the Red Sox fans can come out of the closet and proudly wear their "Beantown" colors. I was recently in Disney world, and I have never seen so many Red Sox hats and Tshirts! Now with the winter meetings in full swing and the steroids scandal a major topic in the media, it will make for a very interesting spring training and keep baseball in the forefront as the national pastime.
Regretfully, I must report the death of another classmate. Tim Barron died in November after a long illness. He died at home surrounded by his family. Tim is survived by his wife, Leslie, and children Nicole and Brittany. While at Dartmouth Tim was a member of Psi U and through the years remained close with his fraternity brothers.
Tim Dreisbach, our envoy in Hanover, has made a suggestion for a class project, specifically, the development of a computer-based, selfguided walking tour of the Dartmouth campus. It is reported that the admissions office has already taken the initial step by creating a Web page ( www.dartmouth.edu/~tour/ ). It is proposed that there be a PDA or similar device connected to the campus wireless network and open to the tour homepage. A person can then walk around campus using the device to scan different informative pages at the appropriate places, designated on a tour map. It will help the College by complementing the student-led tours and make the current Web tour all the more visible and accessible. Our class will get some recognition and credit in support of this project. Contact Tim with your comments or suggestions at timothy. a.dreisbach71@alum.dartmouth.org.
If you haven't heard by now, the College is opening the Campaign for the Dartmouth Experience after years of planning and two years of intensive behind-the-scenes fundraising. The College is seeking to address long-deferred needs for new residence halls and other buildings, as well as to move ahead with new opportunities. The College is looking to raise $1.3 billion. A majority of the money would be utilized for new classrooms, residence halls, renovations to athletic facilities, as well as for new research buildings and additional full-time faculty positions.
Tom DeMarco, prompted by the death of his friend and roommate, Dom Puccio, e-mailed some news of his recent activities. He is a senior partner in Peninsula Urology PA and practices at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland. He has two children, a son at Salisbury University and a daughter at Wheaton College. His wife of 28 years, Ann, is a mortgage loan officer for Chase Manhattan. Tom recently completed the 2004 Newport to Bermuda sailboat race as navigator and ship surgeon on the yacht Regatta. Even though they didn't win the race, he had a great time and closed down the Hog Penny Pub in Hamilton with Ken Kennedy'86.
