-A great time was had by all at our annual class dinner at Rene Pujol Restaurant in New York City. More than 25 classmates attended (too many to name in this column). Wayne Hobin, visiting from South Carolina, joined us for cocktails along with Colby Morgan, who lives and works in Memphis, Tennessee. Colby, a real history buff imparted some interesting information in regard to historical sites in New York City that date back to the American Revolution. Different classmates join us every year, along with the New York area regulars, and many interesting dinner conversations took place. Unfortunately, the evening passed too quickly, and, soon the group was headed for their transportation home, whether by air, train or car. As we were dining in New York City, Sam Cuddeback organized the first annual spring dinner at Izzy's Steak and Chops in San Francisco, California. Those attending with Sam included Willis Newton, Greg Schelkun, Gary Cook, Roger Prince, Malcolm Jones, Eric Danoff, John Eaton, Bob Cushman and Dick Wenzel. Check out the pictures from bpth dinners on our class Web site(www.alum.dartmouth.org/classes/70).Also on the site is a report from class president Pete Webster, regarding the class executive committee conference call held December 13, 2004.

Prior to the March dinner, class officers met to discuss plans for the 35th reunion and related class fundraising efforts. From that meeting, a letter was generated to College President James Wright expressing various concerns that went beyond football and athletics (I'm sure you've heard of the controversial Dean Furstenberg letter of December 2000), encompassing admissions, alumni interview inputs, student social organizations, student growth, etc., which we believe are inconsistent with our vision of the Dartmouth community. As a result of that letter, President Wright met with a dozen members of the class Executive committee in New York City on April 4, when we expressed our concerns directly to the president and asked him to provide us with information that aids us in understanding the issues presently facing not only Dartmouth but other institutions of higher learning (such as federal compliance obligations). Also joining us was newly hired head football coach Buddy Teevens, who stated to us the reasons why he was convinced that the Dartmouth head coaching job was for him; additionally, he claims to have a good working relationship with the admissions office. The coach is quite optimistic about the football program and is looking forward to the major renovation of the Colleges athletic facilities. More details of this meeting will follow in an upcoming newsletter.

John Hinderaker, a practicing attorney in Minneapolis and Power Line co-founder along with Scott Johnson '73, was recently honored at a dinner hosted by the Center of American Experiment, a conservative thinktank based in Minneapolis. John was one of the men behind Power Line, an Internet blog, who are convinced of the power of blogging to make journalists more accountable.

Finally, we received news of the death of classmate Stylianos Orphanoudakis in March 2005. Stylianos had been residing in Heraklion, Crete.
