I received a note from Ed Patterson (Destin, Florida), who received a letter from Blair Morrissey. His response to Blair told us some things about Ed. After retirement Ed and his wife, Charlotte, "got into breeding dogs and showing pugs and other breeds and became dog show judges. I've recently retired from this (eyesight problems), but continue vicariously through Charlotte." Ed goes on to say that as a result of receiving his Ph.D. at Georgetown University in the 1950s he turned into a voracious reader. "Now, with the eyesight problem, my library is becoming CDs, DVDs and tapes." Good advice for those who enjoy reading but are having some problems.
Ed says he's "trying to understand the trustee election brouhaha, but can't say that I have succeeded. Our Dartmouth was formed by Ernest Martin Hopkins and Lloyd Neidlinger (names that I'm sure are familiar to all of you) and I know we can't expect Dartmouth to remain unchanged for 70 years. But I do worry about our Colleges future and hope the 'rebellion' will prove to be constructive." Amen to Ed! If there is anyone out there who can assist Ed in this new endeavor, he can be reached in Florida on (850) 837-2 657 and then he can pass it on to all of us.
And from Gene Waggaman: Seems Genes son Doug happened across the following on the Internet (do you believe these people are trying to get a hundred bucks for his work?): "Eximious Books & Autographs, Excellent, distinguished, eminent—Amazing Dartmouth Class 0f 1938:50thReunion Book; Author: Waggaman, Eugene, Dartmouth Someone is looking to sell their 50th reunion book and is seeking $100. You may remember that Gene played a most auspicious part as editor of this book. As Gene says: "It's interesting that the book is still alive and worth a peso or two."
I'm sorry to report the passing of classmates Blaine Mallory, Charles Cherry and James Cuffe. Our deepest sympathy to all of their families.
