Hmn, things are pretty slow this month. I never did tell you all about my wedding two years ago, did I? Well, it was a sunny day .... Hold it, what's this? The mail has arrived. We are all spared once again.
i (J The "back to school" urge claimed ChipBehal this past September as he started a master's in business administration (sounds so innocuous) at Hofstra on Long Island.
The "move to N.Y.C." urge claimed another victim as Doug Furth confessed to a new address and job as a lawyer with Weil, Gotshal and Manges (all part of the Bar's equivalent of the Witness Protection Program). Doug mentioned that in N.Y.C. he'd seen Michio Soga, who was moving to London as part of Goldman Sachs's Wall Street Protection Program. (My problem, I guess, is that if you live in D.C. long enough, you think that everyone's got something to hide. Or maybe it's just being class secretary.)
Ed Jaicks will be returning home this June after five years in England as a purchaser of raw materials for the M.A. Hanna and Iron Core Company of Canada. Ed will be declaring a wife, Nancie, and a year-old daughter, Emily, at the Customs gates. Over the past years, Ed has seen the likes of Jeff Boylen, HarryGriffith, and Ed Baldridge pass through South Kensington. Talk about your tired, huddled masses. At any rate, the Jaicks spent a lot of time with Mark and MaryCulhane and their one-year-old son Ryan. Mark is a troubleshooter and penalty killer for Northwest Orient Airlines. Finally, for all of you upcoming honeymooners, don't let Ed know if you'll be in Europe because, as I'm sure Walter andLaura Elliot will tell you from their Kitzbuhel experience, the guy just doesn't know when to leave.
Greg and Pat Douglas Jenkins thought they could help Dartmouth by asking that only one Alumni Magazine be sent to their home. Sorry, I know the feeling, but when it comes to alumni relations, nothing is too good. Hey look, you can keep one on the coffee table while having one for the bedside table. Now see how deprived those families are that only get one copy. (Hmmm, sounded persuasive at first.) Last August, a crew consisting of the Jenkinses, Marlowe Hicks, Eugene '81 and Laura Benjamin Heyward, and JulianSchmoke attended the kickoff classic at Giants Stadium in New Jersey. You may ask, knowing that Marlowe is married, where Mrs. Hicks was. Probably tending to their second child, Mathew, who was born last July. And Marlowe is out having a good time, tsk, tsk. The last note was of Tony Anderson, who with his wife Alicia and son Andrew recently bought a house right around the corner from the Jenkinses in Montclair, N.J. Hey, Tony, go timesharing on Greg's lawn mower.
Ah, 1 hate getting scooped. Jim McKusick's book, Coleridge's Philosophy ofLanguage, was discussed in the "Dartmouth Authors" section of the December issue and here I am just now mentioning it. Jim's study discusses Coleridge's poetry within the context of the poet's linguistic theories and the intellectual thought of his period. Critics have hailed this analysis as "an original contribution to Coleridge studies." Jim is an assistant professor of English at the University of Maryland.
The national debt keeps getting bigger and yet people keep getting married. There's no explaining it. Brenda Gross married Daniel Geier in October. Sounds like a good combination of the humanities and science. Brenda is a Ph.D. candidate in theater at City College of New York while performing her duties there as an adjunct professor of speech. Dan received a bachelor of science in engineering at City College and works as an engineer at Grumman on Long Island. The honey moon was to be in St. Maartin (probably on the French side, knowing that zany Brenda), far from the reach of Ed Jaicks.
Every time I turn around, Steve Morrison is sending more news of F-14s and port calls, this time including the cities of Cannes and Palma de Mallorca in the Mediterranean. Steve has been flying with the world-famous Red Rippers in flight operations with Egypt and Turkey. Not all is fun and games, with an occasional night landing on his carrier, U.S.S. Forrestal, to keep him honest.
Thanks, but Dave Nemiah and I will stay on home turf for the time being. Dave decided that even life in Boston after five years was a little too stressful and is now enjoying the green pastures of Westport, Conn., as a market research analyst with Yankelovitch, Clancy and Shulman. It's understandable, we're all getting older. Dave's dad retired recently to Hanover, so in the best spirit of '79 comradery, stop in and see Dave's dad when you're in the area.
Jim Geller edged ever closer to the basement of Kappa Sig with his move to the Upper Valley and employment as an engineering manager for a manufacturing firm in Claremont. Smart boy, though, he waited until after he married Isabel Roberts of Baltimore last summer before wisking her off to the North. Ray Gladhue (former roommate) had introduced the two, proving that roommates really can have a good influence on one's life. Ray and T.J. Crane were in the wedding.
