As I write these notes it is mid August and Bing Donaldson and I have recently returned from a memorial service held in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, Greensboro to be precise, for Bud Kast. Bob Field and John Hyde were the other '43s in attendance at a simple but beautifully conducted service for our late classmate. Bud had earlier (June) been remembered at a ceremony held at Germantown Academy, where he was headmaster for 16 years. I'm indebted to Church Leonard for sending me a copy of that program. Thanks to Ann and Bing Donaldson the Cape Cod mini took place this year. On June 21, a gorgeous day, 10 of us gathered at the Donaldson home and swapped stories while looking over Town Cove and a benign North Atlantic Ocean (last year it was not benign as a Northeaster roared through and forced us to cancel the gathering). On scene, in addition to the hosts, were Jackie and Howie Thomas, Doc Fielding, Ray McMahon, Betty and Bud Miskell and Louise and I. Louise and Don McCorkindale had hoped to make it but family matters interfered. Don did give me the news he had recently talked to Bill Maeck's daughter who reported her father to be in a Phoenix, Arizona, area assisted living facility. Classmate deaths since the last column: C. Davis Whittemore, John D. Goode, Marshall A. Souers Jr., Robert M. Mustard and A. Preston Moore. Our condolences to the families. Keep well!
