I'll open with apologies to Jim Troster and RogerGaskill, both of whom emailed me about their activities last November. Although initially lost in the Christmas shuffle, thanks to computer memory their comments were retrievable. Jim expressed surprise at the few '43s online and summarized his Marine Corps days during WWII, leaving the campus with Dacy Stevens and later encountering Don Wallis, Moose Kearney and Dixie Daniels. Rog Gaskill responded that he is retired from Chrysler after 37 years and currently keeps busy "visiting kids in New Hampshire and Montana, some volunteer jobs, a little golf, yard work and house maintenance, genealogy, socializing with friends and traveling." Miles Lasser received the John D. Hamilton Society Award last October for his work with Jamestown Community College, on which board he served for 11 years. Bob Straub has been speaking openly about his battle with Alzheimer's.
More golf aces to report—CharlieDoes scored his fourth at age 70 and JohnO'Day, like your scribe, can claim one. Marty Borofsky writes as the "Bionic Man," since he recently had a second knee replacement and has had two stents in his heart. Bud Hall was busy traveling over the holidays, visiting with Paul Parker at Thanksgiving in Wayzata, Minn. Paul in good spirits while battling cancer. Christmas Eve, Bud and wife D.J. drove to Grantham, N.H., to attend Marge Stockwell's memorial service. Bob Field,Mike and Connie Thurston, Bob and Barbara Liming and Ruth and PaulYoung also attended. A recent e-mail from Jack Jouett reported on the family's successful millennium Hawaiian Island cruise on the Independence. Jack's comment on Waikiki: "Makes Miami Beach look like Saville Row." John Keefe e-mailed that he and Ann had returned from a winter London sojourn where they attended 20 shows. Finally, Bob Krumm wrote of a recent D.C. visit with Phil and Barbara Bowie, where he was Phil's guest at the 87th anniversary dinner of the Alfalfa Club. (All the top officialdom of Washington in attendance except for Bill and Hillary.) The '43 Cape Cod mini this year will be Thursday, June IS. A flyer with details will go to Northeast area '43s in May. Stay well!
