Fall is finally here and along with the cooling temperatures, brightly colored leaves and football come classmates shamelessly promoting themselves!
My go-to-sports-guru John Campbell sentan update about the company he founded, Matuse. "We make premium surf wetsuits from Japanese limestone rubber called Geoprene (i.e., stuff that's much warmer and better for the environment since it's not derived from oil). We're now distributing to retailers in southern California, Hawaii and Florida. Conceptual planning for the company began in late 2005. We first started selling in late August of 2006. Awareness about us grew because of effective guerilla marketing and our flagship professional rider, Mikala Jones. In January of 2 007 we officially partnered with our Japanese material provider, Yamamoto Corp. The partnership gave Matuse exclusive rights to our unique Geoprene material." John and Matuse were recently featured in an article in Trans WorldBusiness, "action sports' most popular business publication" which can be read here: www.twsbiz.com/twbiz/features/article/0,21214,1630131,00.html. Classmate as well as former and current roommate Dave S. Sargent is also with the company as of February of this year. Writes John, "He has now become an integral part of what we're doing. Dave and I already have a pretty good track record of working together. Back in the day I was president of Heorot and he was VP." So if you ever need awetsuit, orsurflessons for that matter, you now know where to look!
A justifiably exuberant Abigail Drachmanjones let me know about her recent publication. "My first book was published by William Morrow on August 28! After over two years of writing I'm thrilled to be done.Restless Virgins: Love, Sex,and Survival at a New England Prep School is a work of nonfiction about teenage life today. It follows seven students through their senior year at Milton [Massachusetts] Academy, and is about their social and sexual experiences—about what it's really like to be a girl and a guy in high school. My co-author Marissa Miley (University of Pennsylvania '03) and I are so pleased. Checkout our Web site for information on readings, appearances, and more: www.restlessvirginsthebook.com." One will note positive reviews by both the Boston Globe and O: The Oprah Magazine. I'll definitely be adding this to my winter reading list!
Congratulations to both on all your success!
