For several years our class put a major push on to build up the class scholarship fund. Ken McGruther reports that thanks to endowed scholarship funds like ours, promising young men and women of the entering class were offered an average scholarship package of $25,653. The Class of 1965 Scholars for the current year are Shamara Baidoobonso '06, Kale Bongers '07, Jacob Dudek '08, Emily Eberle 'O9 and Cathy Wu '09. We've thoroughly enjoyed the company of some of these students at the fall mini-reunion dinners through the years.

Paul Pickrel writes: "My whole year could have been summed up by saying, I played a lot of golf." He goes on to describe the wedding of his son Biyan and visits to various children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There was a family reunion and visiting the family of his late wife, Marlene. So, it's not all the hard work of golf that he is about these days. He's enjoying the company of his significant other, Anna.

Jon Silbert is now in his 16th year as a judge in the superior court of Connecticut. These are eight-year terms and Jon is looking forward to approval from the state legislature to proceed with another eight years on the bench. In the last 10 years he has tried primarily civil cases, though criminal and other sorts of cases are seen in the superior court system. One of the aspects of the job he enjoys is the fact that no two cases are the same. Frequent vigorous games of squash help him to maintain his equanimity in the courtroom. Mixing his legal expertise with the three years of Russian at Dartmouth has allowed a satisfying experience with a Russian-U.S. exchange program during the last five years to help improve the skills of Russian lawyers and judges from the province of Pskov in northwestern Russia. On the all-important home front Jon and his wife, Bonnie, celebrated their 30th anniversary with a trip to Spain. Meanwhile, their twin 25year-old daughters have jobs with benefits. Congratulations on all counts.

Lewis Wheaton is living in Millburn, New Jersey, with his wife, who works for a consulting firm. He retired from Associated Press a few years ago and began a new career teaching at Kean University. He finds the students stimulating and interesting. Their use of cell phones, laptops and iPods is a whole different world. Lewis and Kathleens 18-year-old son is a high school senior and their 24-year-old son is living in Maryland doing research at the Institute for Mental Health.

The 2007 fall mini-reunion will be Homecoming Weekend, October 19-21, at Pierces Inn. Fingers are crossed for good weather and having as many classmates as possible attend. Our class Web site, www.biggreen65.com, has the most up-to-date information on this and other class activities. We continue to be grateful to our Webmaster and unofficial adoptee from the class of 1964,John Sottile.
