Spring has sprung, summer is 500n....
When President Wright made one of his periodic swings through San Francisco earlier this year, the throng in attendance included Gwen and Mike Havem and Cindy and Sam Livermore. Mike continues to engage in a variety of post-retirement activities, such as volunteering at a local public school, and Cindy and Sam are preparing for the rigors of having both a senior and a freshman at the College this fall. Also, early in the year Steve Toll, who runs his own information technology-consulting company in Los Altos, California, was my dinner companion at the Dartmouth Engineering Forums Glyco-Fi presentation by dean emeritus Charles E. Hutchinson '68. This Dartmouth-conceived leading biotech company (yeast glycoengineering and optimization of biologic drug molecules) was acquired by Merck in 2006 for $400 million.
Vicki Marks sent a nice long note (others could follow her example!). She has been in Atlanta for the past 17 years, moving back after having spent her early post-Dartmouth years in the Northeast, including 10 years in Boston. She has been with Bell South, headquartered in Atlanta, for 12 years, the last seven as a marketing director with its financial services subsidiary, but is looking to make a career change by leveraging her 20-plus years of varied marketing experience to a more progressive company and position where she "can be a lot more creative and have more fun!" Viki reports in December classmate Ronn Tigner hosted a holiday gathering for the Atlanta chapter of the Black Alumni of Dartmouth Association. Ronn is an attorney and president of the local regional alumni club. The gathering included not only alums but current students and prospective students. A freshman Vicki interviewed last fall reported her first term at Dartmouth had been a wonderful experience. Additionally, in attendance at the party were Frank Walker and his wife, Angie who have been married more than 25 years, and Teri Garrett. The Walkers are now empty-nesters with two adult daughters. Frank is vice president of marketing for an Atlanta-based company. Teri recently left IBM after a long career there. She is taking some time off before she hopes to utilize her considerable expertise as a project manager at another company. Ronn and Teri keep in touch with Leslie Gibbons Wade and Jerome Wade, who still reside in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Jerome has his medical practice. Vicki also keeps in touch with Tyrone Bird, Ben Wilson and Tyson Gibbs. T-Byrd is still in the petroleum industry in Houston, Ben practices law in Washington, D.C., and Tyson is a professor of anthropology and chair of the department at the University of North Texas in hear from classmates at the standard alum address beginning with vicki.r.lmarks.73.
Start planning now to attend our June 2008 reunion, just a year away.
