With the general election soon to be in full swing, Dartmouth is soon to begin its own search for a new president, with all the attendant hopes and aspirations that will accompany the 17th president of the College. Meanwhile on campus the class of 2008 is getting ready to take its place in that global com- munity we call Dartmouth. And as a parent of one of those members, I can attest firsthand to the depth of this class and their enormous potential. It's truly been a remarkable experience these past four years seeing these men and women mature and get ready to take their place in the nation and around the world.

And now the news.

Michael Caldwell sent in a photo of Al Barstow, Jenny Clarke (Al's wife) and Maria and Ola Samuelsson taken this past fall during Homecoming weekend. Ola was an exchange student from. Sweden at Dartmouth from 1971-1972 Ola, Michael and Al all played soccer together that year. Michael reports that Al is directing a graduate program in organizational management at Penn and Michael is busy maple sugaring, life coaching and pastoring at the East Cornish (Vermont) Congregational Church. You can see this photo in our next newsletter.

And in a self-described "emergence from under the radar" our own John Britton sent an e-mail after he ran into Chris Carlson in a Los Angeles hotel. John says that he "heard this middle-aged man" talking about his resume and heard the word "Dartmouth."

He recognized from his "dusted" memory banks none other than Chris Carlson, who was in the lounge with his co-author interviewing Ernie Banks, the Hall of Fame shortstop for the Cubs, for a new children's book to be published late spring. Chris has been in L.A. for the past 27 years as a screenwriter, according to John.

John on the other hand is a pediatric anesthesiologist in northern Virginia with a 25- and 26-year-old and John's wife, Martha Zeiger, is a surgeon at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.

And if any classmates are in town for graduation, let me know. We'll buy the drinks.

Well that's it for now. Keep those e-mails coming. Nancy sends her best, as do I.
