What is perfect about this set of my class notes is that I am writing them fresh off a visit to our wonderful, wintry alma mater. I was just up in Hanover the weekend before with the Penn mens basketball team (the Quakers emerging with an easy victory, unfortunately).
While in town I was able to get together with Jessie Levine, who is doing verywell! She was on her way out of town for a cruise the next day, making me very jealous, but it was great to see her and catch up. For those of you who may not know, she is the town manager of New London, just down I-89 a bit.
Two other reunions took place a few weeks earlier, when I was in Chicago—one planned, one most definitely random. The first (planned) came Saturday morning, when I met up with Eric Vratimos and his young children for a day of bowling; I am not proud to say that his 6-year-old daughter beat me twice. Later that night I was in the city at a random bar when who should walk in but Libby (Perucchini) Graham and her husband, Bill. Totally wild. Great to see both Eric and Libby, though!
So April Ossman has a book of poems out called Anxious Music, and once again in my duties as class officer I was lucky enough to get a free copy of it. I found some great stuff in there, April! I totally recommend it to those poetry fans in our class. April has spent the last six years as the executive director of Alice James Books in Farmington, Maine, which has become a bit of a hotbed in recent months for poetry buffs. You can check it out at www. alicejamesbooks.org
Finally, Ben Neal e-mailed to let me know about a nonprofit investment group he has put together with another Dartmouth alum,"Bradford Davis, called Ocean Energy Institute. It is headquartered in Rockland, Maine. As Ben wrote, "The aim is simple—how to add to our renewable energy mix with ocean-based sources." He is working in La Jolla, California, making biodiesel from ocean algae as part of his Ph.D. studies in marine biology. Love to see the Green trying to keep it green!
When you read this, of course, baseball will be in full swing. I know this because while I was penning these notes I got a call from Ben Crawford, who was at the White House awaiting the arrival of the Red Sox. Just had to throw that in there. Looking forward to hearing from all of you, folks!
