Well, Brook Miller's mom is going to be happy; her son has finally been awarded a spot in this highly read section of DAM. Brook tied the knot with Chrissy Kolaya on August 16 in Evanston, Illinois, and since I'm a local I got to go as the date of Naomi Aoki (yes, feel free to spread rumors and gossip). It was a match made in heaven, and Brook and Chrissy looked like they had a good time too (I'm here 'til Thursday.. .try the veal...).
Among the attendees were fellow '92s Tommy Clark and Paru Mital, who played soccer with Brook at Dartmouth. Tommy—who added luster to the usher position by looking resplendent in a traditional Scottish outfit—remains in Albuquerque, where he is finishing up his residen- cy; Paru continues to live in the Detroit area working in real estate. Bill Thomas and Lisa Catapano were also in attendance; they recently moved to Washington, D.C., after living in Boston for awhile. Naomi continues to work at The BostonGlobe.
And what of Brook and Chrissy? Well, they are moving to Montevallo, Alabama, where he will be a professor at the University of, you guessed it, Montevallo. He told me: "It's a lot like Dartmouth, only its in Alabama." Actually, Brook, that would makeit nothing like Dartmouth—somehow, I don't see the line "who can forget the crunch of feet on snow" happening, even if there is a version of "Montevallo Undying."
As if hearing the call of Brook's impending nuptials, another former soccer teammate, John Milne, wrote in from halfway across the worldliterally—to give an update. He has lived in Mani- la, Philippines,, the last six years and is entering his second year as principal at the Brent International School. John and his wife, Helen, have a daughter, Philippa.
Give a rouse to Laurie Kincman, who received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Lighting Direction in June! Laurie was honored for her design work on a dance piece titled TheGypsy's Wife, which was choreographed by john Malashock of Malashock Dance & Cos. and produced by KPBS-TV.According to the release I received, Laurie has joined the faculty at the University of Arizona this year, heading up the B.F.A. stage management program. Congratulations!
Another classmate who received anhonor of the highest order is Carl Swenson, one of our multiple Olympians (how many other classes can claim that?).In May he was recipient of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Associations Buddy Werner Award, which is given annually to the USSA athlete "who demonstrated leadership and good sportsmanship in national or international competition."
Carl Schaefer and Jen Patterson Schaefer sent word of the birth of their second daughter, Clara Linden, on May 8; older sister Abigail is 2 years old. "Life is busier than ever," said Jen, "but it is filled with love and laughter!"
On the business end of things, Peter Furci was recently one of four people named partner at Debevoise & Plimpton; he continues to practice in New York in the firm's tax department.
Okay, kids, that is all. Send me news.
