Congratulations to David Downie and his wife, Laura Gasiorowski, who had their third child, a baby girl they named Pier, on March 15. Baby and mother are doing well. Pier's older brothers Jake (6) and Ronan (4) are slowly adjusting to the new balance of power but are excited. They still live near the beach in Fair Haven, New Jersey, and David works in global markets at Deutsche Bank in New York. David's e-mail: davidcdownie@yahoo.com.
Kris Hirschmann shares news of her family and work: "My husband, Mike, and I are still blissfully busy with our two girls Nikki and Erika, who are 51/2 and 4 years old. We bought a pop-up camper at the end of 2006 and have spent the last year and a half exploring the campgrounds of Florida. People frequently tell us, 'That's not real camping!' Yes, we know we're wimps, but we've reached the age where we prefer actual beds to tree roots digging into our backs. The girls adore camping and are having tons of fun fishing, canoeing, and doing lots of other outdoor activities. I'm still working happily, albeit a bit frantically at times, as a freelance children's book writer. Among other things I'm currently doing tie-in book projects with Guinness World Records, Discovery's Planet Earth series and a Disney Princess monthly club. Last year I was also lucky enough to be pvicked up by a very good agent and I'm working with her to develop and launch a children's fiction series. Cross your fingers for me!"
Writing from California, Eben Haber catches us up on his world: "I am married and have a 5 1/2-year-old daughter (and two stepdaughters ages 16 and 19, so I got to do the teen years first!). I'm working for IBM research outside of San Jose, California (research is great fun, but don't expect me to endow any buildings at Dartmouth any time soon), and living up in the Santa Cruz mountains surrounded by a wide assortment of crazy people. The older daughters could not be convinced to apply to Dartmouth but maybe the youngest one can try for the class of 2024.1 recently got my amateur radio license, a process I started at Dartmouth and never finished. Living in a place with no cell phone coverage, it's good to have a backup form of communication; if any other '88s hear K6EBN on the airwaves, say 'hi.' "
Do you have some spare time to fill and an interest in writing? With our 20th reunion fast approaching (only five more DAM issues away) and the next election of class officers it brings, I will be resigning as class secretary. If you think you might want to pick up the torch or have questions about the job, please get in touch!
