A feature article in TheProvidence Journal in February titled Harvard Medical School Honors Trailblazing Surgeon" announced that Hardy Hendren, M.D., was honored when Harvard Medical School and Children's Hospital of Boston established a professorship in surgery in his name. Prior to retirement he was the Robert E. Gross distinguished professor of pediatric surgery. Immediately on learning of the death of George Ferrarese, his roommate Zeke Lanzillo forwarded a photo of George in their room in Richardson Hall in 1947.

There was received here recently, a copy of Russ Fraser's new book, Shakespeare: ALife in Art. Bill Hallager took a trip to Denver in late January to visit family members and in May traveled to North Carolina to visit another daughter and her family. Frank Weber forwarded an item from The New York Times, perhaps already viewed by some, asserting that college alumni magazines are facing stiff competition from the electronic media in terms of rapid distribution of current items. The thoughts of readers are sought on the continuing or expanded use of the Web site to disseminate news items. A drawback of the present system is the seven-week delay between submission of copy and distribution in the Alumni Magazine. Obituaries also follow this pattern after notification to the secretary or other necrologist.

Our mini-reunion is scheduled for the Norwich Inn on October 17-19, the weekend of Dartmouth Night and the Holy Cross football game. A class meeting is scheduled for Friday, October 17, at 1 p.m. We hope to see a good turnout.

The sympathy of the class is offered to the family of George Ferrarese, who died in April.

keep in touch.
