Greetings from sunny Lake Tahoe, California, where your Class Notes author is scrambling to finish by the deadline due to the arrival of grandchild No. 2.
Wayne Hobin reports from the New York City dinner that 19 classmates, wives and other friends assembled at Gallagher's Steakhouse in midtown Manhattan on May 5. John Shanahan along with wife Martha set it all up. They had a huge upper room with their own private bar and bartender. The food was great both in quality and quantity—one of Gallagher's specialties. Conversations drifted from aching joints to football to the growth of the campus and the trustee issues. They all had a great time and look forward to gathering again on the first Monday in May in 2009. You can see pictures and names of attendees on the class Web site.
Sam Cuddeback reported from the San Francisco dinner that was held at Il Fornaio on May 7. Willis Newton did a great job organizing the event but had to miss it due to a business conflict.
Ten classmates attended, including Bill Pickard, who ventured down from the Northwest, plus a few brave spouses and a pair of '72s. We had a private room to enjoy the outstanding San Francisco culinary delights and Napa wine.
Jack Burnett sent along some news about Thomas Wolf, who was selected to deliver Pennsylvania State University at York's 38th annual commencement speech. Thomas was nominated to serve as secretary of revenue by Gov. Edward G. Rendell in January 2007. Prior to his position as secretary Thomas served as chairman of the board and president of a family-owned building materials business called Wolf Organization. Jack also forwarded some news about Middletown, New York, attorney Robert P. Augello, who was recently honored as a Hudson Valley visionary leader for his land preservation contributions along with Warwick supervisor Michael Sweeton. "Augie" enjoyed the annual benefit dinner, which highlighted local food and wine from Applewood Orchard and Winery.
One of the topics that came up during a recent class officers meeting was the incompleteness of our e-mail list for class members (about 60 percent). Most other classes have more than 90 percent of their classmates' e-mail addresses. We ask your help in forwarding any classmate's e-mail address to wayne@horizonpointe.net. We'd like to include as many members of the class in future activities and notices.
Mike Fay passed along some news that classmate Glenn Britt was featured in The WallStreet Journal on June 2 regarding the spinoff of the cable arm of Time Warner. Glenn is the CEO of that division. Wayne will put the WSJ write-up on the Web site www.dartmouth. org/classes/71 under Class Notes. There is also a video of the interview available. It makes for interesting reading. Give a rouse for Glenn!
Mitch Wallerstein recently made the news when Public Agenda, the nonpartisan policy research and civic engagement organization, announced that Mitch, dean of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University was joining its board of directors.
Keep the news coming.
