As I write these notes on a very snowy afternoon in Wilmette, Illinois, I confess that I have very little to report. The one piece of good news is that the William H. Scherman Scholarship Fund, to which many classmates contributed as well as many other of our friends, is still doing very well. As we requested from the beginning, each recipient has had English as his or her major. There have been an equal amount of young men and women for the most part and, so far, they have done very well academically. Even in these tough times the fund has continued to grow.

On a more somber note, your classmate George Magrath died in September 2008. He and his wife, Mim, who predeceased him, never missed a reunion—mini or large—and George also attended the 70th accompanied by one of his grandsons. My other very sad news is that your president and my dear husband died on October 21, 2008. Obituaries appear in this issue.
