Pete Bedell's son Dave wrote me recently that his mother is in the Amherst, Mass., Nursing Home, zip 01002 and is in rather bad condition. I gather that she can not write but might have someone read a note. Some of us still remember that when she lived in Northhampton she came to a few of our reunions.

John Bell and his wife expect to have their daughter drive them to Clearwater Beach, Fla., the last of October. They have a very comfortable apartment where they have spent the last ten winters. They look forward to seeing the usual Dartmouth gang in Florida.

Bob Falconer sent a $100 check for our 1905 men's permanent memorial fund and writes: as of September 27. "Next week we'll all be getting interested in football. The N.Y. Times has not yet reviewed Dartmouth's prospects. Penn, Yale, Harvard, and Princeton have had some space. Penn is discouraged. Princeton and Harvard seem fairly optimistic. But Yale is bubbling over with confidence. Most of the old players are back and there is a wealth of new material. I would say that Yale is our nut to crack, if we can."

As of 9/26/70 we opened our season with a victory 28 to 7 over University of Massachusetts. As of 10/3/70 we had another victory 50 to 14 over Holy Cross.

Mrs. Helen Gilbert writes that she enjoyed very much her June reunion with us. She is going to Washington, and on to Ann's, her daughter who lives in Virginia, for the first three weeks in October, then drive back with them to the Harvard-Dartmouth game, October 24. Her daughter is married to a Harvard '49 graduate and Helen says she can yell as loud as they can.

This month's news is saddened by the report that Lewis Clayton Grover has left us. A full obituary will appear in either this or a subsequent issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE.

As of 9/28 Alva Hatch was glad to send a check for the MAGAZINE. "I always enjoy reading it. I have received word of the birth of my third great grandson. This one I can really enjoy as his mother and father live close so I get to see him very frequently."
