In response to a birthday card, Lin-Yi-Ho writes, "In thanking you for your kind thought and remembrance, let me say in the usual Chinese traditional way, 'So many years I've passed away in idleness.' I am still carrying on, but in a very limited way and with great difficulty. For some three years I have been staying home as if under house arrest."

No direct word has been received from Don Cheney since his hospitalization at reunion time. But recently news of Don came to your secretary indirectly. Two observant alumni in Florida, Allan Gottschaldt '18 and Ray A. Wesselmann '27 (secretary of the Dartmouth Club of Central Florida), sent me identical clippings from the Orlando Sentinel Star of October 19. The clipping carries a picture of Don with the following comment: "Judge Donald A. Cheney, Chairman of the Orange County Historical Commission since its inception in 1957, is shown above admiring his portrait unveiled Sunday at ceremonies formally opening permanent quarters of the Orange County Historical Society Museum." It is good to learn that Don has recuperated and seems to be carrying on as usual.

Fortunately I have been able to continue my visits with Charley Jordan practically every week. As with most of us, he is not improving with age. He can still smoke his pipe before breakfast, but has problems with his vision and mobility. His present state of well-being, however limited, he attributes solely to the wonderful care tendered him by his singularly gifted housekeeper-companion. I regret to report that Charlie suffered a grievous loss in the recent death of his daughter, who had lived in Atlanta. Ga., since her marriage in the early '50s.

Just before I completed these notes, word was received from Hopper Allison of the death of John Norris on October 21. This reduces the number of surviving members to 32. See the obituary section in this or a later issue. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his widow and the members of his family.

May the joys and blessings of the holiday season be with you all!

Remember June? These decidedly cheerful '09ers posing with equally cheerful wives are(from left) Francis Birl, Al Bates, Harold Clark, Reggie Colley, and Bert French.
