Belated congratulations to Sol Rochenmacher, M.D. In October 2008 he received a Good Samaritan Award for Medicine & Healing given annually by the Pastoral Counseling Services of New Hampshire. Good Samaritans seem to be in short supply these days, so it is spectacular to find a classmate who cares and shares his caring with less fortunate people.
Kudos as well to Jake Crouthamel, who was honored in January as Dartmouth’s representative at the fifth biannual Ivy League Football Association dinner in New York City.
Recently Bill Hadley was discovered in Treasure Island, Florida, enjoying retirement as a certified charter boat captain. Following a long and distinguished career in the insurance business he left Ohio to sail for 11 years on the Caribbean. He claims the geographic adjustment was not too difficult. Never having attended a 1960 reunion, perhaps we can lure him and Paulette to our 50th in June 2010.
Just when it appeared that on-campus interviews supplanted local interviews in the admissions process, up jumps Chuck Darrow, who balances Dartmouth student recruitment in the Syracuse, New York, area with his continuing financial services career.
On the move are Betty and Wayne Givens to Reston, Virginia. They were willingly shuttled between Rochester, New York, and Colorado by Eastman Kodak during Wayne’s career and are now ending a 13-year stint in Fort Collins, Colorado. As many know already, downsizing is not fun.
Mary and Lars Lofgren left icy, cold Chicago in February for the warmer climes of Fountain Hills, Arizona. Two years of gestation will soon result in the completion of their new house, thus permitting Lars to stop writing checks and play more golf. This is winter headquarters with summers still spent in Green Lake, Wisconsin. Sounds idyllic!
Not going anywhere are Susan and Spike Hamilton. He claims that three days of preparation for two days of work as tax assessor for East Dummerston, Vermont, then followed by two days of rest is the perfect scenario for his weekly work ethic. Much of their summer is spent on the Maine coast overlooking Bar Harbor. Not too shabby!
M.J. and Hans Wurster use the world to compete annually in snow and water sports. In February it was the Master’s Nordic World Cup races in Autrans, France, followed by several local events. Spring, summer and fall find them rowing and sculling. Last year it was the Master’s World Championships in Vilnius, Lithuania. The U.S. Master’s Nationals and Head of the Charles races keep them occupied locally. And, they are planning to attend the world championships again in Australia next October. Hans spends much of his free time organizing fundraising events for the Breckenridge (Colorado) Music Festival.
