Women, it seems, love Thayer School of Engineering. Some female engineering majors have even been sporting T-shirts that proclaim “i Want to Be an engineer” on the front and “Sex Can Wait” on the back. Since 2000, 30 percent of the school’s bachelor of engineering degree earners have been women, compared to a 20 percent average nationally, according to the National Science Foundation. Thayer Dean Joe Helble says the statistic derives from the school’s unique approach to engineering education, which includes “the integration of engineering systems thinking with the liberal arts, and a focus on team-based project learning.”
