Had the pleasure of lunch (over the phone) with George Porter, who called wondering when we were going to get together again in Hanover. I told him nothing was planned, but I would look into it for the fall. I would like to hear from those who would be interested in getting together, even if it was just for lunch or dinner. George is in an assisted living community in Providence, Rhode Island, and as the “sculptor on duty” his talents are displayed throughout the facility. “I put my heart and soul into it,” says Georgeand I truly believe he does. Reach him at (774) 487-7391.

A letter from Ed Hibler (and wife Jackie) from Half Moon Bay, California, was accompanied with the Half Moon Bay Review Magazine with Ed’s picture on the cover and an article on Ed and Jackie titled “Not the Retiring Kind.” Ed would love to hear from classmates (650-726-7266) and, most especially, his freshman roommate Fred Hollingworth. Ed says, “Now that I’m 93 and Jackie 83, we find that we have sadly outlived most of our own personal friends as well as our classmates.” Along with other physical problems during his 80s Ed’s lower right leg was amputated due to circulation problems. “I get around with an electric scooter and a prosthesis. As a team teaching a life-story writing class we have great fun working with other seniors. Indeed, helping with others seems to be the magic ingredient.” Amen!

Sadly, the class of 1938 received notice of the passing of four classmates: Blaine Mallory, Ewart Walls Jr., William McFarland and Earl Ward. Our deepest sympathy and prayers to their families.

Enjoy your summer and know I am thinking of you.
