Hello, ’98s, and happy summer! In recent months our class family has grown, our intra-Dartmouth couples list has grown and our classmates have added more accolades to their lists of accomplishments, as well. So, without further ado, the news:
First, we have a new class family member in New York. Jaime Bedrin and husband Scott Dodd (Penn State ’94) welcomed their urban baby Henry Asher into the world on March 1. According to Jaime, the proud parents are getting used to life with a baby in N.Y.C. Congrats, Jaime and Scott!
Kevin Robbins also wrote in to report that he and his wife, Kate, had their second child on February 11. Grayson “Grady” Gillespie Robbins joins big brother Tucker, age 2, in the thriving Robbins family. Kevin reports that Tucker is taking to the “new arrangement” remarkably well. Congratulations, you guys!
I also heard from Tracy Tylee, who I believe is making her debut in the alumni column. Tracy reports that she married Adam Silberfein ’99 in August 2008, so congrats to the happy couple! For the past three years Tracy and Adam were living in San Diego, where Tracy completed her internal medicine residency. Tracy finished the residency in June and the couple moved back to Seattle, where Tracy will be doing a fellowship in endocrinology. Before heading back to Seattle Tracy wrote in to say, “While I’ve enjoyed the beautiful southern California weather for these last few years I really do miss the mountains and yes, even the rain of the Pacific northwest. It will be nice to head back home.” Tracy, Adam and their adorable 8-month-old Viszla named Wylie sound like they’re doing great. Thanks for the update, Tracy!
And on to the accolades! On April 24 the American Academy in Rome announced the winners of the 2009-2010 Rome Prize Competition. The academy conferred 29 awards “to artists and scholars representing a variety of disciplines.” Winners of the Rome Prize get to live at the academy’s 11-acre center in Rome for between six months and two years! And of those 29 awards, two went to Dartmouth ’98s! In the ancient studies discipline Susanna McFadden won the Lily Auchincloss Post-Doctoral Rome Prize. Susanna is an assistant professor in the department of the history of art and music at Fordham University in New York. And in the literature discipline Peter Campion won the Joseph Brodsky Rome Prize. Peter is a poet and assistant professor at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. Congratulations, you smarties! We all look forward to visiting you during your time in Rome—please save us space on your couch!
So, congratulations to these classmates! And, to everyone else, please write in with your own updates. You don’t need to be new parents, newlyweds or award-winners, either! Just let the class know what you’ve been up to since you left the Big Green. Have a great end of the summer, everyone!
