Hello, ’98s, and happy late spring! News has been rolling in and not only does it seem like the class is up to a lot of exciting things in terms of careers, the class is also being fruitful and multiplying at an impressive rate! But first, the fun career news:
In New York Kyle Ancowitz and his theater company, the Blue Coyote Theater Group, recently had success with their production Conversation on Russian Literature Plus Three More Plays, by David Johnston. Kyle co-directed the production and the cast included our very own Carter Jackson, who is one of Blue Coyote’s “repeat offenders.” Conversations got great reviews in both The New York Times and Time Out New York. Congratulations, Kyle and Carter! Check out info about upcoming productions by Blue Coyote at its Web site, www.bluecoyote.org
James Panero is also having success in New York. On December 28, 2008, his review “Brought to You by the Letter S” was published in The New York Times Book Review. James’s article reviews Michael Davis’ new book about the television show Sesame Street. James is also the managing editor of The New Criterion, which describes itself as a “monthly review of the arts and intellectual life.” James not only writes columns for The New Criterion but also contributes to various other publications around the country. James and his wife, Dara Mandle, also maintain a blog that you should check out www.supremefiction.com On the site James and Dara provide, in their words, “reviews of art, television, shopping, books, movies and New York restaurants.” Congrats on the byline, James, and here’s to continued success!
And now, in baby news, the ’98 family grew by at least a dozen in recent months. Here are just a few of the ones I heard about, but please write in with more! Alex Prinstein wrote to report that her son Leo Aaron Pevnick was born on December 5, 2008. Leo has been keeping Alex and her husband, Seth Pevnick ’99, “very busy from Day 1.” The family is living in Santa Monica, California, while Seth finishes up his Ph.D. in classical archaeology at UCLA. Alex is taking a couple of months off from her job as an educational consultant to “figure out the whole parenthood business.” She says, “In between attempts at convincing Leo that he’s cuter when he smiles we’re enjoying our 70 degree winter. We’re just hoping to start sleeping more soon.”
Moving on into the New Year, Nora Bryan Behrens and Scott Behrens welcomed their second child on January 24. Rowan Eve Behrens joins her big brother Bryan in making life busy and exciting in the Behrens home. Nora and Scott are living in Incline Village, Nevada, where they own and run a fantastic pizza (and general Italian fare) joint called Tomaatos. You need to check it out if you’re in the Tahoe area!
I’ve also heard that Amy Klepetar and her husband, Matthew Beedle, have a gorgeous son named Finlay, born at the end of January 2008, and that Tal Kadar and her husband, Eric Lubochinski, welcomed son Isaac (who goes by Ike) on February 3. Congrats to all the new parents!
Everyone, have a wonderful spring and write in about what you’re all up to!
