On June 12 a group of young (and not so young) alumni from the Dartmouth Club of Mary- land (DCM) joined the crew of Baltimore’s Urban Pirates for a warm Friday evening adult cruise in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, learning how to talk, dance and play games like a pirate. They blasted enemies with live cannons, did the limbo and even formed a conga line. The ship flew a special Dart- mouth-green pirate flag on loan from the Dartmouth Club of Silicon Valley. Kristin Smith ’92 organized the event and recruited alums and their guests to be- come pirates for an evening. On May 12 Dartmouth head football coach Buddy Teevens ’79 visited the DCM at the Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant in Harbor East. Alumni enjoyed catching up with each other and Buddy was reunited with some former Dartmouth football players, classmates and even parents of a current football player. He shared a video with highlights of the Dartmouth football program and then discussed Dartmouth football, the College’s athletics program and the Peak Performance program. Club president Tara Gulla ’95 organized the event in coordination with Joey McIntyre, director of football operations, who managed the event’s logistics.
On July 12 the Dartmouth Club of the Pioneer Valley (DCPV) in the Springfield, Massachusetts, area and the Dartmouth Club of Eastern New York (DCENY) collaborated with the lifelong learning program of the office of alumni relations to sponsor a Dartmouth-on-location program at Tanglewood in Lenox, Massachusetts. One hundred thirty-nine alumni and guests from New York and New Eng- land states, including president Phil Hanlon ’77 and spouse Gail Gentes, enjoyed a buffet luncheon in a tent in the formal gardens followed by Dartmouth music professor Stephen Swayne’s presentation on composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, John Luther Adams and Antonín Dvorák. The Boston Symphony Orchestra concert followed in the Koussevitzky Music Shed. DCENY attendees in- cluded Sally and Ted Jennings ’57, Doraleen and Larry McArthur ’67, Bob Conway ’73, Marcia and Lyon Greenberg ’54.
On April 11, 26 alumni, spouses and kids from the DCPV visited the Emily Dickinson Museum in Amherst, Massachusetts, that is comprised of two historic houses, the Dickinson Homestead and the Evergreens. The homestead was Emily’s birthplace and was built by her grandfather Samuel F. Dickinson, class of 1795. The DCPV tour group was hosted for a catered lunch at the nearby home of Steve Schreiber ’79, wife Jane Thurber and their daughter, Kate ’18.
On June 24 the Dartmouth Club of the District of Columbia (DCDC) took 25 alumni and guests out to a ballgame at Nationals Park to watch the Washington Nationals defeat (2-1) the Atlanta Braves in an extra-inning, Wednesday night game. Phillippa Martinez-Berrier ’14 was the organizer of the event. On July 9, 40 DCDC young alumni and guests enjoyed a Thursday evening cruise on the Potomac River. Event organizers Danielle Jellerette ’13 and Lipsa Panda ’14 were assisted by club vice president Kevin Hudak ’07 and Phillippa Martinez- Berrier ’14. On May 19 DCDC presented a program at the law firm of Arnold & Porter on Dartmouth Moving Forward that featured insights from two of its members, College trustees Ben Wilson ’73 and Nate Fick ’89, and was moderated by member Jennifer Avellino ’89, president of the Dartmouth Alumni Council. Stephanie Welsch-Lewin ’88 orga- nized the event.
