March 21 the Tuck Club of Washington, D.C.,

cohosted with the alumni and friends of the London School of Economics an evening Q&A and book signing with Sydney Finkelstein, the Steven Roth Professor of Management at the Tuck School. Finkelstein shared insights on executive leadership that is the subject of his book, Superbosses: How Exceptional Leaders

Master the Flow of Talent.

On March 12—close enough to St. Patrick’s Day—the Dartmouth Club of Washington, D.C.,

sponsored the Big Green Affair, a Young Alumni at Dartmouth Activities (YADA) event, at the Big Hunt, one of D.C.’s oldest beer bars, near Dupont Circle. Young alums from the classes of 2005 through 2015 gathered to wear the green (including YADA green and white beads and at least one “Keggy” T-shirt) and enjoy free food, $4 drink specials and conversation. The first 30 attendees to arrive received two free drink tickets. Later in the evening the bar’s owner hosted anafter-party-party in the upstairs arcade with complimentary beverages for alums who stayed on. Among the 45 alumni at this event were Kevin Hudak ’07, Millen Abselab ’13 and Jill Tetirick ’11. The organizers of this event were Danielle Jellerate ’13, Lipsa Panda ’14 and Philippa Martinez-Berrier ’14.

Dartmouth Lawyers Association (DLA) hosted a conversation and cocktails gathering with Judge R. Holbrooke Jackson ’69 on March 15 at the Holland & Hart law firm in Denver. Jackson was a member of the Holland & Hart firm for more than two decades before accepting an appointment as a Colorado state court judge in 1998. He was subsequently appointed as a federal district court judge in 2011, a position in which he currently serves. Nearly 20 alumni attended and networked at this event, including Jim Burack ’85, Ericka Englert ’93, Michael Kelly ’76, Katy Miller ’77, Andrew Petrie ’78, Gil Rosenthal ’90, John Shepherd ’76, Fred Skillern ’73, Karen Sprole ’89, Dave Stephenson ’72 and Elizabeth Wylie ’89. This activity was organized and reported by Holland & Hart partner Chris Toll ’81. DLA vice president for events and communications Jeff Carton ’88 assisted in the report.

The DLA’s 2016 event for continuing legal education (CLE), the “CLE and ski” meeting, was held February 18-20 at the Canyons in Park City, Utah. More than 50 DLA members and guests skied and earned CLE credits attending presentations on government investigations and prosecution for civil practitioners. CLE speakers included Sam Braverman ’88, Liz Gray ’80, Karen Loeffler ’79, Howard Morse ’81 and Rick Sharpless ’79. Other alumni among the attendees included Tsan Abrahamson ’85, Jennifer Arlin ’88, Ernie Babcock ’70, Gary Brooks ’70, Jonathan Bye ’80, Kim Cannon ’70, Joanna Cline ’95, Brian Daucher ’91, Tom Echikson ’84, John Manaras ’67, Greg McGregor ’66, Doug McKenna ’69, Hilary Miller ’73, AI Moncure ’69, Dick Monkman ’76, Elizabeth Morse ’15, Bayard Russell ’01, Dave Russell ’67, Rick Sarner ’77, Bill Schur ’72, Bruce Tepper ’71, Julie Webb ’04 and Greg Yadley ’72. This event was organized by Richard Merrill ’73 and Rick Sharpless.

On April 16 members ofthe Dartmouth Club of New York participated in the spring New York Cares Day, joining 4,000 volunteers working to beautify N.Y.C.’s parks, gardens and public spaces. More than 400 acres across the city’s five boroughs received needed attention. N.Y.C. alums assisting in this green effort included Soh Won Cha ’04, Jeremy Keyes ’04, Dianne Choie ’04, Desi Duncker, Tu’05, Abbey Schmitt ’15 and Anna Van Meter ’01.

The Dartmouth Club of Pioneer Valley

(DCPV) organized a family ski day on March 5 at Berkshire East Ski Resort in Charlemont, Massachusetts, where Ash Hartwell ’63, a veteran Berkshire East ski instructor, gave lessons and guided alumni and guests on his favorite secret trails. Lunch at the Dartmouth table at the resort divided the morning and the afternoon outdoor activities. An après ski party at the resort’s Crazy Horse Bar and Lounge marked the end of great day on the slopes. Among the alumni enj oying the club’s annual event were Garson Fields ’73, Ellen Brout Lindsey ’81, Ken Swinski ’73, Doug Roberts ’75, and Peggy and Mark Friese ’76. On April 9, before an evening concert by the Springfield Symphony, DCPV hosted a cocktail reception at which Steve Swayne, chair of the Dartmouth music department, lead a discussion ofthe Beethoven and Brahms program.
