Clubs & Groups
CLASS NOTES
As always, Dartmouth clubs and groups have been organizing great events and gatherings for alumni!
Jeffrey I. Carton ’88, president of the Dartmouth Lawyers Association (DLA), says the group held its annual continuing legal education (CLE) event, “CLE & Ski,” at Beaver Creek, Colorado, from February 5 to 8 at the beautiful Pines Lodge. Friday night’s keynote speaker was Judge Buck Allen ’71, followed by Saturday night’s keynote speaker Judge Ericka Englert ’94. Other DLA members presenting on the topics of “AI and the Practice of Law” and “Constitutional Law in Trump’s Second Term” included Samuel M. Braverman ’88, David C. Reymann ’96, Richard D. Monkman ’76, and Aiyana M. Thompson ’99. Jeff would like to give a special shoutout to David G. Dietze ’78 for helping him organize the successful event.
At the Dartmouth Club of the Midwest (DCMW), Anne and Jonathan Good ’94 led a tour of the special collections vault at the University of Minnesota James Ford Bell Library, where members viewed rare Dartmouth-related materials spanning the College’s early history and beyond. Highlights included multiple 18thcentury editions of Eleazar Wheelock’s Indian Charity School narratives (including works documenting the transition to Dartmouth College), an early 1811 biography of Wheelock, an 1825 catalogue ofthe Dartmouth College Library, and the 1818 N.H. court opinion in Trustees of Dartmouth College v. Woodward. Visitors also saw Dartmouth literary and design works such as Richard Eberhart’s Thirty Five Dartmouth Poems and Rudolph Ruzicka’s Studies in Type Design, along with 18th-century maps of North America. The event offered a memorable look at Dartmouth’s origins and legacy through original printed works and maps and concluded with a lecture from Jonathan on the origins and symbolism of Dartmouth’s official seal. Thanks to Nathan Bruschi ’10, president of the DCMW, for the update.
John Bash ’67, president ofthe Dartmouth Club of Sarasota and Manatee, Florida, reports that on January 16, Alecia Harper, archivist of the Art Center Sarasota, spoke onthe 100th anniversary of the center. She described the various artists sponsored by the center, including those who helped create a fake army in England during WW II. Andrea Kormann Lowe ’77 noted that the author of The Ghost Army of World War II is Rick Beyer ’78. On another matter, she said Our Moon Education, which she supports and provides access for low-income Zambian students to educational opportunities in the United States, has been affected by visa restrictions on students from a number of countries. On February 20 the club hosted John Zucker, who spoke about his 12 years of working as a radar and missile engineer in Greenland. Dr. Fredric Jarrett ’63, Med’65, had spotted the speaker as knowledgeable about this timely topic.
Thank you for all you do for the Dartmouth alumni community! Please send me updates about the great events that you and your club members have organized.
