Officially Dartmouth did not alibi, but gave all credit to her opponents. This commendable trait was praised editorially by the Boston Herald, which said, "a good sportsman is entitled to an alibi when he is beaten. He did not feel right, he was overtrained, the breaks went wrong, or he was not at the top of his game . . . but we have seen no excuses from Hanover."
