CLASS OF 1904
NOVEMBER 1929 Harry B. Johnson

The Secretary of the class this summer made a trip to the Pacific Coast, and was fortunate in meeting a number of classmates.

At Chicago, he was entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Leverone, and while there had the chance to chat with Earl Herman, Harry Hoi ton, Paul Darrow, Hedley Drew. He missed Bill Roby and Phil Blanchard.

The Secretary is glad to report that the health of Harry Holton and Phil Blanchard is much improved, and as far as he can check up, all of the Chicago group seem to be getting along very well indeed.

At Seattle, the Secretary was met by Mr. and Mrs. F. Hathaway Hardy. He is still in charge of the Geodetic Survey on the North Pacific, and has the possibility of being transferred in the near future to the Philippines. His younger son is headed for Dartmouth, and will likely enter in another year. Hathaway afforded the Secretary and his family a royal time and, of course, not having been back to Hanover in twenty-five years, he learned a lot about various classmates.

At Portland, Oregon, the Secretary met Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Fiske and their daughter Barbara, and had a very delightful chat with them during one evening.

A few days later, the Secretary met some of the classmates in San Francisco, and was delightfully entertained at luncheon by W. D. Whittemore, the resident manager of the International Banking Corporation. Freddie Boot was also at the luncheon, and the class of 1904 was well discussed at this meeting.

One of the men who thoroughly enjoyed the Twenty-fifth Reunion in Hanover was Lester Gibson, who traveled all the way from San Luis Obispo to be present at the reunion. The Secretary and his family stopped off over night at Lester's home, and were most cordially met by his family and had a great time while there. Lester has charge of a very large area of the California highways in the central part of the state, and showed us some of the work which is in progress along the Pacific Coast which will make one of the finest scenic highways anywhere. The following day he drove us to Los Angeles.

While at Los Angeles, the Secretary met Dr. Albert L. Hill, who is a practising physician and teaching in one of the medical colleges in Los Angeles. He and his family dropped down to the Secretary's hotel, and we spent a very chatty evening together. It was hoped that while in Los Angeles the Secretary might meet Harry Morse, but Harry was away on his ranch and was missed.

While in Los Angeles, the Secretary got in touch, with Edgar MacLennan, who lives in Hollywood, but is one of the few residents of that city not engaged in the moving picture business. He is married and has a small daughter, but the time was so short that the Secretary did not have the opportunity to meet him.

While in Portland, the Secretary called up Mowry Lockwood in Opportunity, Wash., and had a nice chat with him, and found that Mowry was having a very successful apple year.

On the return East, there was only a short time at Kansas City, but the Secretary got in touch with the family of Charles McKnight and found them busy with plans of sending both of their sons to Dartmouth this fall. The older son is already a sophomore at Dartmouth.

At St. Louis, a chat was enjoyed with Leigh Turner. He was very enthusiastic about the plans for his son, who will enter Dartmouth a year from this fall, and his son has been doing some splendid work for Dartmouth, as he has interested eight boys who are entering Dartmouth this fall.

At Washington, the Secretary had a chat with Alfred Hastings, who is in the United States Forest Service, and talked over again the pleasant time we had in Hanover in June.

It is hoped that this little swing around many of the classmates who have not been back to Hanover will result in increased interest and an attempt to return to the next reunion.

John P. Sanderson is now located at the Hotel Delmonieo, 520 Park Ave., New York city, and has the occupation of supervisor of operation of hotels.
