CLASS OF 1872
MAY 1930 George H. Fletcher

All members of the class will be pleased to learn that Miss Ruth H. French, daughter of George B. French, Esq., our class secretary emeritus, was elected president of Smith College Alumnae Association, 1929 to 1932. Her duties as president call upon her to speak before the many Smith College Clubs throughout the country, and to impart to its alumnae information relating to the college and its varied interests.

Also that Miss Elvira Slack, daughter of the late Rev. Henry Levi Slack '72, has recently issued a collection of short poems made with excellent discrimination, entitled "Christ in the Poetry of Today." This is an addition to her previous publications of "The Man of Galilee," a book for Bible study, and a "Canticle of the Year."

Hon. Albert L. Bartlett, former mayor of Haverhill, Mass., and now president of the Dartmouth Club of that city, delivered an historical address before the "March meeting of the Massachusetts State Society of the Daughters of the Revolution on its tercentenary celebration of Massachusetts at the Hotel Vendome, Boston, on March 22, 1930. The subject of the address was "The Puritan Women of 1630." Special reference was made to Margaret Winthrop, Anne Bradstreet, and Anne Hutchinson. The Judith Badger Coggswell Chapter of Haverhill was the hostess chapter. The address was replete with historical information. The audience was deeply interested and highly entertained. A beautiful structure in Haverhill is named the Albert L. Bartlett School.
