CLASS OF 1890
APRIL 1932 Willis McDuffee

The Secretary received the following characteristic and highly entertaining letter from "Jimmie" Reynolds, dated January 31: Dear Willis:

In order that you may keep track of the wandering ones in your '90 flock, "may I not" report myself as giving the Mediterranean and Italy the benefit of my presence for 1932's first two months? Chaperoned by Friend Wife, I have dallied in the land of the Sheik at Algiers, have paid a far too brief visit to Sicily, visited the Isles of Greece, made famous in romantic history by the sojourn there of George Higgins Moses and Lord Byron, and have motored along the wonderful Dalmatian coast. Have railroaded and motored through Italy from Fiume and Trieste in the North to the sun-kissed Bay of Naples. I set sail in a few days for a dash along the Riviera, then Gibraltar, then home. Old Man Depression is very much in evidence over here. The pleasant traveler is a rarity, and no traffic cops are needed at the hotels. On my trip over a new Dartmouth alumni organization was formed, that of the good ship Saturnia. The society was organized by H. B. Thayer, super-trustee of the College; Prof. L. B. Richardson 1900, who seems to be living down the fact that he was born in Lebanon; and the undersigned. [Then follows something which is not quite clear, containing the word Volstead, whatever that may mean.] Greetings to you and yours in the land of snow and ice, from an Italian springtime and skies of blue.

Mathewson was in the hospital for nine days the first of February, for a surgical operation, but is back now at his work as principal of Lyndon Institute. His son Philip is a student at Middlebury College. His daughter Miriam is at Simmons, and the other daughter, Marion, at Boston University. Mathewson is one of the leading educators of New England.

At our last reunion, the two sons of Dr. and Mrs. Perry S. Boynton were lively and most welcome members of our party on various trips. They are genuine sons of '90. Therefore, the members of the class will be glad to learn that Perry Jr. is following in his father's footsteps and is busy with his medical studies at Cornell Medical School in New York city. Carroll has now recovered from a serious illness which he had last summer and fall.

Murray Hanson writes that he cannot give us much news of the class, as he is located about half way between points at which they might be located, and therefore, unfortunately, he does not see any of them. Murray is located in Dawson, New Mexico, and has been most successful in business, being at the head of the Dawson Fuel Sales Co. Although Murray lives so far away that he has never been able to get back to a reunion, he is a thoroughly loyal member of the class. He has been one of the largest givers to the Alumni Fund for many years, takes the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, and keeps thus in touch with the College. We all hope that he will get back to Hanover at least by the time of our next reunion in 1935.
