Coach Blaik's injury list was swelled by the strenuous . play at New Haven, and little in the way of work was done during the week of the New Hampshire game. The expected let-down did not fail to put in its appearance, and the 21-7 result of the House Party contest at Hanover on November 10 spread a good deal of gloom about the landscape. Herb Stearns, regular guard, was taken to Dick's House the day before the game with an attack of appendicitis, and Deckert, Erion, Muello, and Camerer were kept out of the line-up because of injuries.
New Hampshire brought a smart, rugged team to Hanover, and the Indians were unable to produce any sustained marches in the face of the Wildcats' determined defense. After a scoreless first quarter, Dartmouth's first tally came on a long pass from Bill Clark to Frank Nairne just before the half ended. It looked as if 7-0 might be the final score until Joe Kiernan, reserve quarterback, took a Wildcat punt near midfield and weaved his way to a touchdown. Hard on the heels of this sudden score, Norm Rand uncorked a 33-yard dash through the entire New Hampshire team to tally Dartmouth's third touchdown.
Toward the end of the game, with the Green reserves carrying on, New Hampshire moved from deep in her own territory to a touchdown by means of just three passes. Statistics gave Dartmouth eight first downs to New Hampshire's three, and 212 yards gained by rushing to 133 for the Wildcats. The Indians completed four out of nine passes for one of their best aerial performances this season.
The victory over New Hampshire was an extremely costly one, with Don Otis, Bill Clark, John Merrill, Eddie Chamberlain and Tony Geniawicz being added to the already long injury list. An enterprising scribe figured out that Dartmouth had a first-class team on the sidelines.
Coach Blaik, certainly a Stoic by this time, set to work "to build a football team in one week." That he didn't quite succeed was borne out by the Cornell game, which went to the Ithacans for the second year in a row, 21 to 6. Kiarsis and Billings took over the line vacancies, and a backfield combination of Aieta, Rand, Handrahan and Kenny was groomed to handle the ball-carrying.
