The work of Harvey Cohn's freshman track team has been featured this year by the record-breaking performances of Captain Tony Geniawicz, former star at Lynn English High and Clark School. In the closing meet with Andover on May 19, the freshman leader set two College records by heaving the discus 142 feet 1 inch, and putting the 12-pound shot 57 feet. In an informal meet with Clark School on May 5, he also bettered the College record for the 16-pound shot with a toss of 50 feet 234 inches. This last mark, however, is likely to remain unofficial.
The yearling trackmen defeated New Hampshire at Durham on May 12, 96-35, capturing every first place and sweeping the pole vault and 220-yard dash. Double winners were Brown in the 100 and 320, Fuller in the mile and half-mile, and Mitchell in the high and low hurdles. Geniawicz' heave of 50 feet 2 inches in the 16-pound shot and Brown's time of 10 seconds fiat for the 100 were the outstanding performances of the one-sided meet.
Andover's undefeated team swamped the Green freshmen, 84-41, at Andover on May 19. In addition to the smashing of two College records by Captain Geniawicz, first places for Dartmouth were captured by Mitchell in the high hurdles, Bunce in the high jump, and Cole in the hammer throw. Cole's winning throw cleared 167 feet, 4 inches.
