Saw Burbank '91 at his home in Sierra Madre, Calif. He was in our class for a year. Gene has a very pretty, comfortable home fifteen miles north of Los Angeles.
He retired in 1923 and lives the life of Riley! However, his civic duties occupy considerable of his time. Both Burbank and his wife are quite well.
They took me and two of their neighbors on an all-day ride through Redlands, Riverside, etc. and after luncheon at the famous "Mission Inn" at Riverside, we drove up Rubidoux Mt. where a large audience assembles Easter Morn to worship at sunrise. This is the spot where this custom originated.
We also paid a visit to Dr. Zeeb Oilman '63, at his home in Redlands. He is the oldest living graduate of Dartmouth, in his 99th year. Dr. Oilman was educated as a lawyer but later studied and practiced medicine. He was much pleased to see us and to talk of his undergraduate days and to discuss the Hanover and the Dartmouth of today.
I saw a picture lately of Thos. Ward '66, Harvard's oldest living graduate (94 yrs. old) leaning on the arm of a young fellow, and he looked like an old man compared with Dr. Gilman!
